BOARD PRESENTATION OF THE FUTURE OF 4 PAWS
1. Financial Review 2015 – 2018
Ellen Straney reviewed the operating income and expenses for each year pointing out

that expenses in each of those years exceeded earned income. The item that reduced the year end deficit each year was the unexpected receipt of estate bequests. Even with these unexpected bequests, the organization drew down its checking and savings funds. The organization cannot continue to count of bequests to fund its operating deficits without eventually facing dissolution. 4 Paws must bring its operating expenses more in line with its earned income. To do this, the Board has determined to close the Youngtown Shelter within 18-20 months. It is clear that we cannot fund two shelters and remain a financially viable organization. Future estate bequests should be set aside for endow the organization and stabilize its financial future.

Deb Heise reviewed some preliminary plan to add an addition to the Peoria Shelter if the Peoria Engineering and Planning Committees approve. Over the summer months the Board will be developing a project, communications and funding plan.

2. Board Leadership

Another critical issue facing the organization is attracting individuals interested in serving on the Board. Under the State laws as well as 4 Paws by Laws we must have a minimum of three members on the Board. There are presently four members but we would welcome

additional support. We continue to seek volunteers at all levels within the organization – they truly are a gift.

ADJOURNMENT: The meeting adjourned at 2:55 p.m. The Board net directly after to elect new officers.

Respectfully submitted,
Ellen Straney, Recording Secretary

So, there is no misconceptions, we are NOT closing 4 Paws. With that being said, we cannot fund two shelters. So we are consolidating and since we OWN the Peoria location, the most logical move is to expand on this site. We can hope to intake and adopt out ALMOST as many cats/kittens as we do now. Please know this project, if we can get all approved by the Peoria Council, will take 18-24 months to complete. NO cats will be left behind. All cats will go to the Peoria location that are not adopted at the Youngtown location, so they are safe and still able to be adopted. This complete idea is to enable Sun Cities 4 Paws to continue to offer haven and care for cats/kittens for a long time. We will continue to need our volunteers, fosters, and donations. The Thrift Store will stay where it is located and continue to support the shelter. If you have questions or concerns, please call Deb (President) at the office 623-583-1824, leave a message with your name and phone number, and your call will be returned.
