Sun Cities 4 Paws Peoria Renovation & Construction Update 10.20.20

As we move towards the end of October, we are happy to report that the outside painting and window installations are complete, along with many interior improvements. Drywalling, painting and the box beds for each room are almost complete and we will then be starting the whimsical cat paintings and photos in the individual rooms.

But the best news is the construction of the new addition is starting today! This addition will hold two specialized isolation units, one for ringworm and the other for respiratory and/or parasitic treatment. With separate ventilation and room set ups, the chance of cross transmission is lessened, allowing for quicker recovery times.

To complete the ringworm isolation room, we have decided that stainless steel cages are needed for both the best disinfection/cleaning protocols and to help accelerate healing time and shorten the time spent in isolation. That being said, the cost of stainless steel cages is quite high and we need your help!

Won’t you meet us dollar for dollar up to a total of $15,000 ($7500 in donated funds matched by $7500 from Sun Cities 4 Paws), to help us meet our goal and achieve the best care we can provide? Every donation helps! Just click on the upper right corner of our website and choose “Stainless Steel Cages” as your designation. If you would rather send a check, please send it to PO Box 426, Youngtown AZ 85363 and mark it for stainless steel cages.

All of us at Sun Cities 4 Paws are most appreciative of your support, especially the cats! Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns by emailing

We are underway with the renovations on the original part of the Shelter. New windows, individual venting for specific rooms, paintings, new air conditioners/heaters, and drywalling are just a few of modifications. This is part of a 2 phase plan and as this gets completed, murals and notable quotes about cats and kittens will be added to walls, TVs will be installed in the Isolation/intake rooms, so the cats have visual stimulation, as well as mobiles. This leads us to the new addition. We are hoping for approval within the week. Minor corrections have been brought to the architect’s attention, but luckily, nothing major.

As we complete the interior renovations, we will then move onto the new addition. We hope to have the renovations and new construction completed by November. We will keep everyone updated as we are planning to have a Grand Reopening and special sponsorships available for the individual rooms.

We will continue to update on our webpage, and Facebook page We are excited that with everyone’s help and patience, this project is finally happening and hopefully will have a positive effect on the cats with continuity of care.

After the construction is finished, we will be closing Suite 6 & 7 at Youngtown. The Thrift Store will remain for your shopping pleasure along with Suite 1, which will be an adoption suite only.
Peoria Shelter Expansion Update 03/25/20

Sun Cities 4 Paws is continuing to work on our building permits but this process has been slowed down due to the COVID-19 situation. Will we continue to post updates as we learn more. Thank you for your patience!
In 2019, the Board extensively researched Sun Cities 4 Paws and the financial future for the shelter and found it prudent to eventually close the Youngtown location (the Thrift Store will remain) and expand on the Peoria Shelter. This would allow Sun Cities 4 Paws to continue its mission with the cats/kittens in the surrounding areas for the future. We feel monthly progress reports to keep everyone updated on the (hopeful) progress of this endeavor are needed, as this aligns with our goal of being clear and open about our shelter/rescue. As of January 5th, 2020, we have an architect who has drawn up the preliminary design for the exterior of the building, and have had it surveyed. The Board is looking at some aspects of the connecting property and negotiating with the owner of that property. As soon as this is resolved, and titles cleared, the designs will be submitted to Peoria Planning Committee. Hopefully, we can submit by end of January. Keep following our progress each month!
