Hurricane Harvey Cats

We at Sun Cities 4 Paws try to maintain the highest level of rescue, adoption and providing care for the cats and kittens brought to our shelters. Because of the large volume of cats needing placement, our managers work from intake schedules to help people with cats needing new homes in a fair, orderly fashion.

Recently, with the devastating occurrences in Texas and Florida, we were asked by Best Friends (along with many other shelters) to help take animals. Animals already in shelters in these areas needed to be moved out to make room for all of the animals displaced by the hurricanes and flooding. Many rescues and individuals stepped up and started transporting animals to rescues and shelters in various states to free up needed space. 4 Paws was one of the shelters to offer help. We shared our news and a few people expressed concern about ‘taking care of our own’ before helping others. I would like to clarify this.

Sun Cities 4 Paws has received four cats thus far from the Houston area and they are in the process of becoming ready for adoption. We have not stopped taking in cats already scheduled to be brought in and we will continue to schedule intakes as space allows as we always do. We are now scheduled to receive up to 6 additional cats from the Houston area as their 30 day holds are up and they have not been claimed. We will make room for them and get them ready for adoption without affecting our normal operations. ***UPDATE*** Six additional cats were received on October 9, 2017

As President, I am more than proud that we are able to extend help, and of the managers, staff and volunteers that can make this happen. I hope that you, the readers, will spread the news, although these cats will not be ready for adoption immediately. They will be tended to medically and socially so they can find new permanent, loving homes.
